Latino history deserves more than a familiar face on a heritage-month slide. In an October 1 post, the Library of Congress brings together routes into original photographs, newspaper collections and recordings of writers reading their own work. Its teaching resources include the PALABRA archive and guidance for searching Spanish-language newspapers in Chronicling America.
For a student, filmmaker or independent publisher, those are places to begin asking who produced the record, whose perspective it preserves and what remains absent. The highlighted Hispanic Heritage image set includes material the Library believes is public domain, has no known copyright restrictions or is cleared for public use; check each item’s rights record before reuse. An archive is evidence to investigate, not a substitute for context.
